Hello, I’m Michelle, the founder and CEO of Medra. 👋
We're accelerating scientific breakthroughs in biology by helping biotechs scale their experiments and workflows with robots. Our partners are discovering cancer drugs, building machine learning models for biology, and tackling climate change.
Team grabbing boba. I’m the second from the right.
We like to go fast.
Team off-site in Tahoe.
We're exceptionally agile and growing fast. Within the last year, we've grown the team from 2 to 7 people, and deployed our robots at several customer sites. I’m seeking a Chief of Staff to collaborate closely in building our product, team, and company.
A little about me and the team:
- I grew up in Taipei, but moved to the United States in high school. I studied chemical engineering and mechanical engineering, but consider my true “field” to be robotics, machine learning, and computer vision.
- I resigned as a NYU Assistant Professor in Computer Science to found Medra. I want to work on the most impactful problems, and I believe that my work at Medra will be more impactful than any research I could have done as a professor.
- I can be silly and enjoy making corny jokes, but also take hard work and leadership very seriously. I take connecting with people I care about very seriously. And I take maintaining my pinball high score at Medra very seriously.
- As a team, we love nerding out about engineering and robotics — plus other topics like race cars or cooking. We like learning new things and then excitedly sharing our new nerdy knowledge with each other.
- I love working with people who hold themselves to high standards. I dislike settling for mediocrity or defensiveness when asked to improve. But having high standards is different from crippling perfectionism or unconstructive criticism.
- Our team is opinionated and straightforward. We don’t mind intense discussions. If we have strong arguments or miscommunication, we resolve conflicts quickly and empathetically.
More about Medra
At Medra, our mission is to automate repetitive wetlab tasks so scientists can more easily collect data and run the experiments needed to make groundbreaking scientific discoveries.
To achieve this mission, we are combining recent advances in robotics, machine learning, and computer vision to build automation technology that can perform protocols to the highest quality standards and be quickly deployed to new tasks.
